Don't blame the ads yet

When you see clicks with zero conversions, the instinct is to change your ads, rewrite your landing page, or adjust your targeting. But in most cases the ads are working fine. People are clicking, visiting, and becoming leads. The tracking just isn't capturing it.

Three common culprits

Your conversion tracking isn't set up. More common than you'd think. You set up campaigns, wrote ads, chose keywords, set budgets. But nobody configured conversion tracking. Google Ads literally can't count conversions because nobody told it what a conversion is.

Your tracking fires but on the wrong event. The conversion tag exists but it's attached to the wrong trigger — page loads instead of form submissions, button clicks instead of confirmed enquiries. Google either sees zero conversions (wrong trigger, never fires) or inflated numbers (fires on every page view).

How to tell which it is

Open Google Ads and check if you have any conversion actions set up. If not, that's your problem. If you do, check whether they're recording any conversions at all. If they show conversions but the number seems wrong, your triggers are misconfigured. If they show zero and you know you're getting enquiries, your conversions are happening off-site.
